Preparing Your Cart for the Summer

Administrator : May 16, 2017 11:09 am : Electric Golf Carts, Gas Golf Carts, Golf Cart

While most of the country is soaking up the spring air and relishing in warmer weather, southwest Florida has hopped over spring and jumped right into summer. It’s only May but temperatures are heating up, seasonal residents are heading home, and eager students are looking forward to their summer vacation.

As temperatures climb, more residents are focusing on the outdoors and summer plans. For many, this includes their favorite golf course! Others are saying goodbye to southwest Florida for a while and are focusing on tying up loose ends. Whatever your summer holds, it means a few things for your golf cart.

Prepare your cart for the summer and bypass the worries of consistent maintenance or risk of malfunction. A few well-timed practices will ensure a long and happy summer.

Care and Maintenance Fit for the Long Run

Just like you would service your everyday vehicle, your golf cart also needs monthly and annual check-ups. No matter what cart you have, stay current and safe with these regular check -ups:

  • Pressure wash car and undercarriage
  • Battery Check
  • Break Inspection
  • Tire pressure adjustments
  • Oil level check
  • Steering check
  • Suspension Lubrication and Inspection
  • Inspect and fill water levels in batteries if needed

You can even accessorize your cart to make it a comfortable ride. Our vehicles say a lot about us; what we do, what we like, and how we want to present ourselves to the world. Golf carts have most of the accessory options that you would expect for any vehicle. Create a car that reflects the Florida lifestyle, including sun visors, plush seat cushions, and much more. Club Car® Onward™, in particular, comes with a host of design and features to choose from. Browse through these design opportunities and cruise in style!

Take It to the Streets!

Golf carts are one of the most common forms of transportation in communities and neighborhoods. Some communities and cities even allow golf carts to be driven on the road. However, for your cart to qualify there are some street-legal requirements that must be met in Florida.

  • Head Lamps/Stop Lamps
  • Turn Signal Lamps
  • Tail Lamps
  • Reflex Reflectors
  • Parking Brakes
  • Rearview Mirrors
  • Windshields
  • Seat Belts
  • Vehicle Identification numbers

Street legal carts are the ideal method of transportation in gated communities, close-knit neighborhoods, and even some smaller towns! Before you hit the road, ensure that your cart adheres to all safety requirements and brush up on your local road rules.

Safety First

The most important thing to remember concerning your cart this summer is to stay safe! Golf cart safety is imperative to the well-being of you and those around you. Remember to follow these safety tips:

  • Always drive responsibly with arms and legs within the vehicle and seat belts fastened.
  • Only carry passengers that you have seats for.
  • Never drive recklessly. Obey vehicle traffic laws and the rules of the road.
  • Never drive intoxicated or under the influence of any drug or narcotic.
  • Use hand signals to indicate upcoming turns in tandem with your turn signals.
  • Avoid excessive speeds, sudden starts and stops, and avoid sharp turns at fast speeds.
  • Avoid driving in inclement weather.

Speaking of inclement weather, watch out for those lightning storms. Living in Florida, we are accustomed to intense storms and the lightning surge that comes with summer. If you get caught in a storm while on the golf course it’s important to know what to do. Flash storms strike quickly in our state, which is why it’s important to know the right steps to golf cart safety during a lightning storm.

Administrator : April 18, 2017 12:39 pm : Electric Golf Carts, Gas Golf Carts, Golf Cart, Southwest Florida

Deciding If a PTV Is Right for You

Spring is here and summer is not far behind it. Expand your horizons and invest in a new way to cruise the course and your neighborhood. Golf Carts are no longer limited to the golf course. Today, many families, communities, and tight-knit neighborhoods are choosing to cruise the streets with golf carts. Easy, fun, and environmentally-friendly, it’s easy to see why golf carts are becoming the #1 choice for safe streets. Personal Transportation Vehicles (PTV) are built with you in mind. These vehicles, made for personal use, come in gas-powered or electric and travel at safe maximum speeds of 20 mph.

Before committing to a PTV it is imperative that you check with your neighborhood or community laws beforehand. PTV’s are not classified as motor vehicles and are regulated by state and/or local governments.

Design, Details, Color–Oh My!

Gator Golf Cars and Club Car® is helping you put the “Personal” in Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTV). Just because it’s a little smaller than your usual vehicle, doesn’t mean that it can’t be personalized.

Our vehicles say a lot about us; what we do, what we like, and how we want to present ourselves to the world. Golf carts are no different. What many people don’t realize is that there are dozens of style opportunities for golf carts. Club Car® ‘s Onward™, in particular, comes with a host of design and features to choose from.

Summer is a time to enjoy beautiful southwest Florida but your safety should never be compromised. Before you hop on your cart and cruise the course, brush up on these safety tips that may save your life.

4 Reasons You Should Commit to Golf in 2017

Administrator : January 18, 2017 2:32 pm : Golf, Golf Cart, Southwest Florida

Golf is as much a part of living in southwest Florida as the sunshine. Really commit to a better, brighter you in 2017 by dusting off those clubs and hitting the course.

Gator Golf Cars is helping you get back up on your feet in the New Year! Check out these tips and benefits of playing golf. This is the year to swing a hole-in-one!

Get Fit in 2017

There’s a wide misconception that golf is more of a sedentary sport. No, you’re not running up and down a football field or tackling your opponents, but golf is still a physical game. It’s more of a warm-up than a work out. Golf focuses on a few vital parts of the body, including your core. Swinging a golf club dozens of times gets pretty tiring. Surprisingly it’s not your arms that suffer, though it may feel like it, but your core. Your core is where the power of your swing comes from. Finding the sweet spot of your swing will build your core, improving your balance and flexibility.

Soak Up Vitamin D

Even in the Sunshine State we could use a little more sunlight. Not receiving enough sunlight can severely decrease your Vitamin D, leading to a deficiency that can cause bone pain, muscle weakness and even cognitive impairment. Take some time out of your day to make the most out of the day! Grab a couple of your buddies

Great Networking Opportunity

Playing golf is an excellent networking opportunity! Some of the biggest sales and partnerships didn’t happen in a boardroom but out on the course. In business, golf is an essential tool, said golf instructor at Penn State University, Brian Short. I have about 80 percent business students. I wouldn’t say it’s a disadvantage [not knowing how to golf], but it’s a great addition to what you’ve already learned.

More and more colleges and universities are offering courses to teach students how to play. Unsurprisingly, most of the registrar for the course is made up of business students. Doesn’t it sound nice to take business outside and into the great outdoors.

Golf is Brain Food

Golf is a great physical workout as well as an excellent mental one. Playing golf can improve cognitive function on and off the course thanks to strategist methods of thought, concentration, and of course the adrenaline of the game!

New Year, New Cart

Administrator : December 20, 2016 10:58 am : Electric Golf Carts, Gas Golf Carts, Golf Cart, Southwest Florida

gator-golf-december-blog-2016

The New Year is just around the corner. 2016 has been quite the ride and here at Gator Golf Cars, we think one should begin every year with excitement. Why not take your passions to the road with a new or used Golf Cart from Club Car.

Whether you want to dedicate some more time to the course, are looking for a more sustainable way to cruise the neighborhood, or just feel like surprising your family, a golf cart can bring that extra special something to your home.

There is a lot that goes into buying a new cart. You don’t want to skip a few steps and end up with a cart that becomes more effort than its worth. To ease the process, Gator Golf Cars has put together this comprehensive list so you cane make an informed decision.

The Choice: Used vs. New

Purchasing a used cart can be a real money saver but be smart about it. Older carts may cost that saved difference in new parts or consistent maintenance. Always ask questions; the cart’s history, its age, any current issues, and why it’s being sold. If you want to skip a potential headache and start fresh, a new cart is the way to go. Gator Golf Cars offers finance plans to make carts affordable.

Batteries, Batteries, Batteries

While you’re checking golf carts, used or new. cart, used or new, don’t forget to check the battery age of the batter. A golf cart’s battery is the beating heart of the vehicle. It can also be an expensive one. Before making your purchase, inquire the age. Anything over two years old may need replacing. A dead or damaged battery however, is what you should really keep an eye out for. While you’re at it, ensure that your cart comes with a charger.

Don’t Be Afraid to Test Drive

It doesn’t hurt to take a cart out for a test drive. In fact, it’s recommended. Every cart has a different feel. Get familiar with the vehicle before making any major decisions. The cart that your considering should always have a smooth ride, straight from the get-go! That means no jerking from side to side, no difficulty turning, and of course, you should never feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Finding Solutions in 2017

Golf Cart Safety in a Lightning Storm

Administrator : October 12, 2016 6:31 pm : slides

Living in Florida, you grow accustom to intense storms. Lightning flashes. Grumbling thunder. It all becomes almost comfortingly familiar when you’re safe inside of your own home. But what happens if you get caught in a storm while on the golf course?

If it hasn’t happened to you already, and you golf in Florida, we’re surprised! Flash storms strike quickly in our state, which is why it’s important to know the right steps to golf cart safety during a lightning storm.

What Not to Do During a Lightning Storm

If you get caught in a storm while on the green, do not seek shelter in your golf cart. Just because motor vehicles are considered safe in a storm doesn’t mean your golf cart is, too. Unlike your car, truck, or SUV, golf carts are not entirely enclosed with metal. In fact, most golf carts are made of fiberglass, making you the “path of least resistance.”

What to Do When Caught in a Lightning Storm

Whenever a thunderstorm hits, the first thing you should always do is seek shelter. Go inside of a building if possible, or seek shelter in your car. Don’t wait for the storm to strike before taking action. If you see a storm rolling in, be proactive and head for shelter before it arrives.

Do not take shelter under trees, near bodies of water, or high ground. Move away from your golf cart and golf clubs, remove the spikes from your shoes if they are metal, and if you cannot find a proper enclosure, aim for lower ground.

If you feel a tingling sensation and the hair on your arms stands up, squat with your feet together and hold your arms in front of your knees. Keep at least fifteen feet away from other people. This will help lower your chances of being struck by lightning.

Gearing Up Your Golf Cart for the Street

Administrator : September 22, 2016 5:31 pm : Electric Golf Carts, Gas Golf Carts, Golf Cart, Golf Cart Safety, slides, Southwest Florida

Today marks the first day of Fall! While southwest Florida may not have falling leaves and crisp winds in our future, it still is one of the most beautiful times of year! Temperatures will drop but you won’t need anything more than a light jacket!

Red and orange sunsets pull us out of our homes and make us want to explore! Don’t forget about Halloween, either! Soon your neighborhood is going to be decked out in spooky skeletons and grinning jack-o-lanterns.

If you’re lucky enough to own a golf cart, we bet you’re already feeling the itch to ride. Before you cruise though, you need to ensure that your golf cart is ready for the street!

LSV’s, or Low Speed Vehicle’s, are street legal vehicles fit for your neighborhood. Additionally, NEV’s, or Neighborhood Vehicle’s, can also be seen cruising the streets of your community. Before you get ready to decorate and ride though, there are regulations that your vehicle must be compliant with in order to be considered Street Legal.

Florida Statute 320.01(42) states that an LSV or NEV is characterized as any four-wheel vehicle that speeds are greater than 20 miles per hour, but do not exceed 25 miles per hour. Just like any other automobile, street legal vehicles are liable to a license tax. Additionally, LSV’s and NEV’s have requirements attached to regulation. Requirements for Street Legal golf carts in Florida include:

  • Head Lamps and Stop Lamps
  • Turn Signals
  • Tail Lights
  • Reflex Reflectors
  • Parking Brakes
  • Rear-view Mirrors
  • Windshields
  • Seat Belts
  • Vehicle Identification numbers

Street Legal Golf Cart’s in SWFL

Do you have a question about street legal golf carts? Perhaps you’re interested in owning one for yourself! If so, feel free to give us a call. We have locations available in both Naples and the Fort Myers/Estero areas! Gator Golf Cars both sells and services various brands and types of golf cars. We even customize them!

Maintaining Your Golf Cart after Storage

Administrator : August 22, 2016 9:11 am : Electric Golf Carts, Gas Golf Carts, Golf Cart, Maintenance

Gator Golf Cars After Storage blogWelcome back to Florida!

Whether you were gone for the summer or just a few weeks, coming back to southwest Florida always feels like coming home. There’s nothing better than settling in and getting back into that southwest Florida routine.

The day has come; you’ve been itching to get back on the green. Taking your golf cart out of storage gives you a thrill of adrenaline…

…that doesn’t last.

Your cart won’t start.

There’s no need to panic! When golf cart’s are left in storage for weeks, or even months, at a time certain issues may arise.

Gator Golf Cars is here to help you troubleshoot your Gas or Electric Golf Carts.

Questions to Ask After Storage

Once you’re convinced that your golf cart isn’t playing tricks on you, it’s important to ask yourself a few key questions:

  • “Did I flip the switch over to Run?”
This sounds simple but after months without use, sometimes our brains switch off too! Make sure the cart is switched to the right position.
  • “Did I forget to put the golf cart in the right position for the long storage?”
If you left in a rush or it simply slipped your mind and your golf cart was left in the wrong position, then your batteries may be long dead. Try recharging them and if that doesn’t work, it may be wise to invest in a new battery.
  • “Did I leave the battery charger plugged into the car for six months?”
Uh oh! If the charger was plugged into your cart for over a few months, you may need to replace the battery.
  • “Is there any water in the batteries?”
Check your batteries water level to ensure it’s sufficient as well as to check for freezing or bursts.

Troubleshooting a Gas Golf Car

Not everyone has made the shift to an electric cart. If you’re still rockin’ the gas golf car then your problem may lie in the Furl tank.

If the golf cart spent it’s time in storage with gas in it’s tank then there’s a good chance the gasoline has gone bad. Remove the old gas and dispose of it using the procedures defined in state regulations. Refill your tank with a fresh start and try again!

Still doesn’t start? It’s time to check your battery.

Unlike an electric cart, this can get a little difficult. Testing your battery depends on the make and model, the tools you have, and whether or not you have them. Testing a gas golf cart’s batter without proper tools can further damage your cart.

If you don’t feel confident testing the battery yourself, call your local golf car service and parts dealer.

Troubleshooting an Electric Golf Car

The most common issue for an electric car is the battery has simply lost charge. After retrieving your cart from storage, give the battery a good charge. Once charged, your golf cart should spring to life.

Not charging? Your golf cart’s battery may need to be restored.

The battery can be fully restored by flushing out the acid and cleaning the cells with a mixture of Epsom salt and water. You can then acquire an older, manual charger and use a pair of heavy duty alligator clamps as an adapter to give your battery a boost of voltage high enough for the automatic charger to read.

If this doesn’t sound like something you want to tamper with, call a professional!

Now what?

Still having issues? Call a professional! Contact the team at Gator Golf Cars with any and all of your questions. Our maintenance department will troubleshoot your cart and get you back on the course!
